Its basically salt with charcoal in it, or salt colored black. you can also use a mix of salt and black pepper.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you trying to do some work or are you wanting to buy black salt from a spiritual supplier or ?

I'm just beginning to learn about hoodoo, my experiance has mainly been pagan, witchcraft and if I were to try to do any work Im the type of person that wants to know what the materials are that I should be using and the significance. I want to know what it consists of. Not planning anything at the moment, just trying to learn.

Just like I posted on the other forum, we ain't talkin about that, we are talking about something sold in African American conjure shops that is called black salt or witches' salt, that is salt dyed black or mixed with charcoal. Not Himalayan salt. It is literally salt that has been colored black with a dye or an agent.

You can use Himalayan salt if you want to, and I'm sure it's tasty to cook with, but that is not what Sarah is asking about. We are talking about this stuff nearly at the end of this page:

SALT: WITCH'S SALT, BLACK SALT, SAL NEGRO $4.00
For jinxing and also for protection from known enemies.

rue is one of those plants that i get conflicting uses persoally i like it for clensing or clearing the air it does have many uses. now i did look into witches black salt not that i care but its properties do not make sence as far as some of the furmulas i saw. thats cool to each his own, I use different methods of working i do not know a lot about these things but it has to make sence elementally. if someone has actually used witches black salt and found that it did work please just drop by and say it really works, to me its more of a visual stimulant, there by increasing the level of intent. sort of like having a statue and praying to it its unnatural just helps visualize something that is already there all you have to do is call on it.

now i could almost see useing black salt for the same reasons and it working due to its natural quality and elemental properties needles to say its energetic field not being distorted by being combined with an unnatural product. thats just my opinion folk i do not know much but add my 2 cents every now and then later folks

See, I'm the type of person who must know what is in something that I'm using, and why I'm using it. So as I see it, if you mix salt with charcoal, therefore making it black, you also keep it natural. Natural is a must for me.
I've heard of witches salt being mixed with spring water and kept of the alter to symbolize the seer.
the salt is purifying and protects and is of the earth, ect. Charcoal fiery properties, is stabilizing, cleansing, ect. Spring water is energy, brings life, cleanses, ect. These things combined provide great, simple symbolism and I've felt it's working great on the alter for those reasons. Just thought Id let you guys know how my reasearch was coming, thanks for all your thoughts too.

Black salt and its formula(s) are mentioned in the Hyatt collection. It's a mix a charcoal and salt. I'd use regular kitchen salt or kosher salt (both are traditionally used in hoodoo).

The spell I am familiar with is for making sure certain people don't come back to you (or your property) anymore.

For example, when the "unwanted" person walks away, you throw black salt in their tracks while saying a commanding prayer, something like: "Henry Jones, don't ever come here no more."

The idea of keeping black salt with spring water on your altar to symbolize the seer isn't a hoodoo practice, but a type of pagan worship or rite, isn't it?

      Blessings,
      Karuna

I have also heard that witches black salt can also be made by mixing it with magnetic sand (aka black sand). I believe I read that on Lucky Mojo.

Please explain to me why anyone would buy "Black Witches Salt" from a website? Anything like this you need to make yourself. a lot of what you purchase from websites and botanicas is garbage in a bottle with a little food coloring. Don't believe everything you read, ESPECIALLY on luckymojo.com. Anyone who references that site I laugh at and find to be inexperienced in the practice. Its part truth with added bullshit for your entertainment purposes only.

      Vanity,
I agree with you about being weary of where you buy your spiritual supplies. Indeed, many places sell a mix of synthetics and food coloring, BUT lucky mojo is probably the last place in country that sells the real deal and I know it first hand. I am not sure what was your experience with their products and why you'd say such a thing... I know for sure that they use natural ingredients, authentic formulas gathered over many years, and not only that — they pray over each product.

I'd recommend this place to anybody any day, and would suggest you revisit them and try again.

I wholeheartedly agree, Karuna. Cat and her staff are the real deal. I visited the shop 2 years ago and was more than impressed. I just graduated from cat's hoodoo course, and the amount (not to mention the quality) of knowledge she's built up over the years is frankly astounding. I have found Lucky Mojo to be the *least* guilty purveyor of bullshit in the hoodoo/rootwork/folk magic world. I too would recommend them to anybody any day. I am starting to become more proficient at making my own stuff, but if I'm not able to, Lucky Mojo is the first place I go. I've tried the others - they don't hold a candle (heh) to Lucky Mojo!

Now, if you want to talk synthetics and food coloring, the word "Indio" comes to mind.......... o_0
