i'm friends with a girl that i like in my class (we're in college) ...however i wanted to be more than friends with her and i wanted to do this without making myself look like i'm forcing it...which is why i chose to do the honey spell...so i was able to get a strand of her hair, put it inside the name packet with the wishes, put two lodestones, two pics of us with our names written on the back, two rose petals and adam and eve roots, our strands of hair....i also put in another brown paper (unfolded) inside with the same wishes underneath the name packet....red candles with love me and come to me oil used for the last 1 1/2 weeks
i just started doing the honey jar love spell like a week and a half ago....the only noticeable thing that has changed since then is the way she has been dressing...she's been dressing a little more sexier than usual...the first time after i started doing the spell, i saw her drawing roses on her notebook...then next class, she comes in with bags of new clothes that she just bought from shopping...
so my question: is the honey jar love spell working or did i do something wrong? or should i be waiting for other different types of signs from her?

A week and a half? I'd say give it more time....the energy generated by spell work takes time to manifest.
When I want quicker results I get some of the fire element in there...yields quick results that may not be as long-lasting. You got some candles though, so thats good. Sometimes Id add ginger, or cayenne....you get the picture.
But you worked with stones, herbs, and other Earth elements too....takes longer to kick in but is steadier energy to work with.
There is also the element that we cannot control everything 100% of the time....there may be that thing we really really really want, and work for, and do root/spell work for....and just may not happen. There are natural forces at play that we can choose to work with or against. Sometimes its not meant to be. Sometimes the lesson is just in the experience. I try not to get attached to the outcomes....as I am co-creating with other forces, not control them. This is my personal beliefs and others here may disagree and work differently.....cool, thats fine.
My advice would be detach from the outcome....let the energy work.....give it some more time! Patience is certainly a virtue of this work. I've had things that take years to kick in...the energy generated during spellwork is kind of like a boomerang. It will come back but you need to give it time to go where it needs to go. -

ginger is suitable for love work but cayenne is for driving away or cursing/crossing.. all hot is not created equal in hoodoo.. and in hoodoo you almost always use candles -- nothing to do with "fire element" has to do with spiritual light.
You're bringing a wicca model to something very different where it doesn't apply. hope the poor guy isn't more confused than before.. -
-
mike ur currect on that matter..;-) but to also work with ginger ..one must really know how to do it...
plus...lesson 101....sometimes regardless on what we do...it might not work for us,,beacuse its not 4 us...lets be real about it..u can make someone love u but 4 how long???;-) im not trying to pop no-ones bubble...but sometimes all the hoodoo in the world cant bring what u want.............why??im gonna make that point clear.......... what we want ..dont mean is gonna be good 4 us..our spirits know better...lessen 102..what spirit ur useing to help u out on this issue???

I was taught to look for signs in time periods of threes.. 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months. if you don't see anything in 3 months you can try again with something different. sounds like what you did was fine technical-wise. except you didn't mention doing any divination first to check the weather ahead of time, sometimes that can reveal other work that may need to be done first or give insight into the potential outcome.. also have you been engaging her personally, striking up conversation, etc.? you can't just sit still and wait you have to get in there. you don't want to be a wallflower you have to get up and ask her to dance at some point.
-
-
u r so funny mike......but u do bring a good point...cant be a wall flower...must act on it...let this person see a part of u....
-
-
jeez guys......come the fuck on....we're all bound to have our differences, i said that even in my post. And Mike, dont assume Im bringing in any kind of model.....you dont know me, dont make any judgements. Okay?
The lady asked a question, I answered it, clearly stating others will have different beliefs.
If you need to knock someone else to make you look better, great. I've seen enough of this bullshit on this tribe. I'm out. -
-
Renee? ....sweetie...;-) dont be like that....im sure mike or my reply wasnt to make u look bad..its just things to look at..thats all..if we r to help others..we must be real and open on all matters my love...i dont knock ur way or mikes way..we can also learn from each-other.....Renee..come on......give me a smile girl...;-) we r teachers and students ...come on..give me some love...i have an issue ..maybe u can help..im trying to sell my house...have many looking in to it but theres no one that bites ..so what do u think i should do with that???............plesae!! pritty please..;-) help a sister out.

Hi there,
Your sooo overthinking this. Just ask her out, already. Your already friends. Do it with a sense of humour and it wont harm the friendship. Your spending all your energy looking for a lost remote when your only standing a couple of feet away from the buttons on the TV!
And even if you get knocked back, dont take it personally, because sometimes people get a bit dumbstruck by an upfront proposition and dont respond in the right way, even if they like you. (If you ask around your friends, you will surely hear some stories of someone being approached by an attractive person with a lively proposition, and then getting all tongue tied and saying something stupid and missing the boat. So its not necessarily a rejection.) Stick around for a second chance, even.
You'd be better off trying to work up some confidence energy.
Aunty Bun has spoken.
Good luck mate. :) -

As much as I find it interesting to see various folks throw in their opinion much like helpful neighbors coming by the kitchen and telling you how best to make a pot of soup, at some point you must muddle through it all and develop your own decisions about cooking and magic.
However, I must agree with Mike, that this tribe is specifically called ROOTWORKERS, so I would hope that people would make an attempt to focus on that tradition. It is a formal tradition, with specific indications. it is not an intuitive freewheeling neopagan thing, or a chaos magic approach to spellcasting, though it has often been mixed up with those sorts of approaches.
I would say that the question reveals several things. For one, there was never a pre-planning period involving divination. What if this dream girl is a lesbian or belongs to some particular religion that would preclude you? How about doing some delving into it first. Second, it sounds like you might need some personal clearing (llke a Cut and Clear spell) to banish previous bad or depressing relationship leftovers.
At that point, what is the best sort of spell? I was taught that honey spells were more for sweetening up existing relationships or for calming rough professional ones, like with the grumpy boss. If you want a sexual and/or romantic attraction, you might do tradtional candle spells with lodestones and sexual fluids augmented with herbs. -

Im all for keeping true to a lineage, and being purist, but this comment was apropos of nothing. I didnt see any indication that this was happening in the first place. -

lol actually now i am -

hay guys ..;-) just droped in to read ur notes...and i respect ur ways....and i notice words thrown around like... wicca and neo-pagan thing and chaos magic ...look...if ur a spiritual person what ever time your in...if ur gifted ..then u r......and every opinion counts... root workers..candle workers ether or.....none should be judged..everyone is unique in their own ways....u may work ur gift one way..and another a diffrent way..WHY? because we r all diffrent...all spiritaul paths cross each-other one time or another..so while all of you's say..and point out on the diffrence with in the paths..focus on what connects us all...
ps..mike...u stated that honey spell....on one of ur notes..thats how i was shown to....to do love spells or attraction spells on that matter...it works...
anyways guys..think...on what i've said...have a good day.

The list of ingredients and details of their use indicate hoodoo specifically, that's where James is coming from, that's the indication:
www.luckymojo.com/hoodoo.html
Plus prophecy posted to this tribe and not a different more Cunninghamesque one ^_^
I liked what you said about "ask her out for crying out loud" tho ! -
-
OK. It is nearly impossible to convey tone via a text discussion so sorry if I sounded too strident. I grew up in San Diego and knew Scott Cunningham and have fond feelings towards him and eclectic witchery in general but try to be clear when I am wearing more of a hoodoo hat versus something else, especially if someone is asking for specific information.
The above link is a goldmine for this stuff, so worth checking out.
Cat was the one who taught me the value of making sure you do a thorough cut and clear spell if you were having trouble in the love spell arena. If you go to the link and scroll down you will see her postings on using lemon to clear out past relationship residue that might be holding one back. -
-
james thanks for telling me about the cut and clear spell...its very good information
mike, james or cc:
is there anything else that i should know about the honey jar spell that i just did?
-
-
oh something else that occurred to me next time you do this.. often if you include 2 matched lodestones in something like a bag or bottle you can charge them first by setting them on the altar and each day feed them and move them closer and closer over 7 days until they touch and are covered in lodestone hairs.. you burn candles each day when you do this and make your prayers and you start out and name them the He and the She (or the He and the Him, etc).
After they come together you feed them again and put them in your mojo or whatever.

Ive noticed that everyone looks to Cat's work as the be all and end all of their rootwork practice. And she does fine work, dont get me wrong. But given the grassroots nature of rootwork in the first place, it IS possible that regional practices will differ from what she details. Especially orally handed down practices. :) Dont be too quick to say "It aint rootwork, if its not Cat Yronwodes rootwork." Rootwork was pretty syncretic and ad hoc in the first place, so its a bit silly to be too purist about it.
But thats just my 2c. ;) -
-
Thank you, Bun! I think I like you. ;D *puts my 2c in the pot with yours*
-
-
lol hey mike i already have the lodestones inside the honey jar....that does that mean i have to take them out and start all over?
-
-
no don't sweat it.. dont take them out now.. and for other folks.. I might mention cat sometimes coz her stuff is accessible that doesn't mean that she's my only connection.. also just because something is made of different parts does not mean that anything goes necessarily.. it more important how the parts are put together its not accident or random, it fits a pattern of how a group of people - namely African Americans and even their "white" descendents like my friend Lee - culturally work with spiritual power. So I can tell if someone mentions "elements" that they are coming from a place other than African American conjure. The folks just don't talk like that. When was the last time anyone heard a blues lyric that mention that either? Not that nobody heard of "elements", that little rag "The Truth About Witchcrap" by Cunningham is pretty widespread in botanicas and stores aint it? "Elements" are too abstract.. but talk about "heating", "cooling", "sweetening", or "souring" etc.. hoodoo speaks from your senses and from the earth. ymmv. But cat has been all over the country and worked with people in different places and her lessons distill this and her materials also do point out where different things come from.. the HyattSpells list also gives you a feel for the variants in different parts of the country if you cant get the books themselves but the commonalities remain like importance of bathing, use of minerals, the way you put things together, using the fivespot or a crossroads, etc. anyhoo thats all for now.

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.Actually I have found her to be a wealth of information in my inquiries and am very thankful to have found her website. I haven't done any spells because I am not as yet confident to do so and I believe the main ingredient in any kind of work is faith. I do understand where "unsuscribed" is coming from though, but not many of us are as fortunate to have this work passed to us from generation to generation... Some of us at one time actually ran when we heard the word hoodoo and rootwork under the impression that it is a bad element. But times change and we become more aware of spiritual forces among us for the greater good. So yes I will support the suggestion of a site such as Cat's for newbies like myself. Which I can't say enought is a great wealth of information.

yoooooooooou are so right sometimes we get caught up in our crafts that we forget sometimes were actual humans who although privileged we are not spared from lifes lessons and the consequences of our actions
remember we must never abuse our magic and never manipulate anothers will unless justified
do unto others as you would have them do unto you
and besides Bun is right

Everything takes time to work. Most spells don,t happen right away, then again it would depend on how much energy you put into it, and while preparing it. Try giving an offering to Oshun.

R u still having this problem today? If people didn't tell you what to do then because they probably don't know to.
Before doing any spell with honey place the person's name on it and do a petition. Meaning on a brown piece of paper or parchment paper write her name down and the reason your doing this spell, what do you want to come out of it. Before ever placing anything in a honey jar you must ALWAYS taste it yourself, take two=three heaping spoonfuls. Then place the brown paper into the honey, shaking it everyday.
Listen: It has never failed I'm giving this to you for free.
To attract a lover just fill the pail about 3/4 with water, adding parsley, petals from five carnations, five drops of honey, a white rose, (petals only) and a splash of florida water. pour this from neck down making sure you rub the shit out of your genitals real good with this bath. Yo I swear do this for five Wednesdays or Fridays in a row. All girls will notice you.
